The Pura Vida way of life

Pura Vida. You will hear these two words everywhere in Costa Rica: when people greet each other in the streets, say goodbye or let each other know they are doing well. Even though Pura Vida literally means the ‘pure life’, the Ticos (Costa Ricans) use the term in a much broader context to say ‘enjoy life’ or ‘live simple’. Pura Vida is a way of life: a lifestyle without stress, worries or negativity – and with gratitude for the things you do have. It’s no surprise that Costa Ricans are among the happiest people on earth.

Booming biodiversity

Costa Rica literally translates into ‘rich coast’. A very appropriate name considering its countless miles of rugged coastline with pristine jungle and an interior of cloud forests and volcanos. One moment you’re ziplining through the jungle and the next you’re at the beach hitting the surf. And don’t forget that volcano you’ll be climbing tomorrow!

It’s a sloth!

There are only a few places on earth where you will come across as much wildlife as in Costa Rica. Look for bright hummingbirds and rare sloths, explore the dense Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, and wander the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park.

In Costa Rica you don’t have to go looking for wildlife: it’ll find you, starting with an early morning wake-up call from the howler monkeys that live in the trees around your lodge.
