A stroll along the ramparts

From the Casco Antiguo you can walk to Monte Benacantil, the 166-metre-high hill that dominates the Alicante skyline. Perched on top sits one of Spain’s largest medieval forts, the Castillo de Santa Bárbara. The castle complex was built and expanded over a 200-year period from the 11th century. Take a stroll along the ramparts and enjoy sweeping views of Alicante and the Mediterranean.

Sun, sea and boulevard

And then there are the endless glorious beaches that have made Alicante famous. Downtown, you will find Playa del Postiguet, a 900-metre-long sandy beach. It is located right along Alicante’s most beautiful boulevard: the Explanada de España. Take a walk in the shade of dozens of palm trees and browse the outdoor stands. The boulevard exudes a Mediterranean summer vibe, especially when locals flock here to enjoy the late afternoon sun.

Introducing Alicante 07 Island

Isla de Tabarca

The Isla de Tabarca lies just off the coast of Alicante and is the only inhabited island in the Valencia region. You can get a boat from the Alicante harbour to Tabarca several times a day. On the island, take a walk around the small village or visit the Museo Nueva Tabarca.

Just outside the city

It isn’t only the city of Alicante that is full of surprises, but also the province of Alicante. Enjoy an outing to the picturesque village of El Castell de Guadalest with its elegant white bell tower. Although the tiny town is home to only 200 residents, it boasts eight museums. Looking for a natural high? Less than an hour from the Alicante coast lies the beautiful nature reserve of Sierra de Mariola: a green oasis with babbling brooks, roaring waterfalls and magnificent mountain valleys.
